Job Duties and Responsibilities:
We are at the forefront of creating innovative digital solutions that resonate with our audience and meet market needs. We are currently seeking a Lead Software Specialist to lead the design, development, and delivery of the enterprise business applications and integrations that run the Group. This is a senior individual contributor role with no direct reports — you will work directly with business units to understand how they operate, decide how their needs are best met, and build the solutions yourself: applications, APIs and integrations, automation, and AI capabilities where they earn their place. With no less than 7 years of hands-on software engineering experience in an Agile environment, you will set the technical direction, standards, and solution patterns for your portfolio, provide technical direction to engineers and vendors, and be accountable end to end for the quality, security, and cost-efficiency of what you ship.
Lead the design, development, and delivery of enterprise business applications and integrations end to end, from requirements through production and ongoing support.
Propose solution options with the approach, effort, cost, and risk laid out, and secure stakeholder agreement on scope and success measures before build begins.
Write production code yourself and stay the most hands-on engineer on your portfolio, taking solutions from prototype through release.
Own software design, code quality, and security standards through design and code reviews, testing strategy, secure-by-design practices, and technical debt management.
Build and maintain the APIs, integrations, and data pipelines that connect enterprise systems and feed the applications you deliver.
Deliver and govern business applications on the Microsoft Power Platform, including reuse standards and oversight of citizen-developer builds.
Embed AI and intelligent automation into the application estate where it earns its place, with responsible-use guardrails and production evaluation in place.
Own CI/CD pipelines, release management, and environment strategy, and keep production stable through monitoring, alerting, and incident support.
Maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and operational handover material for the solutions you own.
Set the solution patterns and reference architectures for your portfolio, and select the platforms and tools that best fit capability, cost, and long-term maintainability.
Provide technical direction and mentoring to engineers, vendors, and citizen developers, and review partner deliverables against agreed standards.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
No less than 7 years of hands-on software engineering experience, including delivery of enterprise business applications and integrations in an Agile environment.
Strong hands-on coding ability, with production experience in Python, NodeJS, or comparable languages and modern frameworks.
Experience designing and building APIs and integrations between enterprise systems, including RESTful services and event-driven patterns.
Solid data engineering fundamentals — SQL and building reliable pipelines against enterprise source systems.
Strong understanding of cloud platforms (AWS or Azure), enterprise architecture, and integration patterns.
Experience owning CI/CD pipelines, code versioning with Git, automated testing, and production monitoring and support.
Hands-on experience applying AI tools and services in development work — AI coding assistants, LLM APIs, RAG, or managed AI/ML services.
Experience delivering business applications on low-code platforms such as Power Apps and Power Automate, and governing their use.
Working knowledge of application security, data privacy, and responsible AI practices.
Strong requirements elicitation and stakeholder engagement skills, with a track record of turning ambiguous business asks into agreed scope.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and offer solutions.
Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently and give technical direction to others.
AWS or Azure certification will be preferred.
