Mandai Nature is a successful Singapore-based non-profit conservation organisation jointly set up by Temasek and Mandai Wildlife Group (which manages zoological parks including Singapore Zoo, Night Safari, River Wonders, Rainforest Wild and Bird Paradise). Mandai Nature is the conservation arm of Mandai Wildlife Group and was established with the aim of advancing efforts on biodiversity protection in Singapore and Asia. Through impactful programmes and innovative partnerships Mandai Nature strives to protect nature and inspire action.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Wild Species Conservation & Management (~40%)
• Collaborate with internal teams to support wildlife rescue, rehabilitation, release/post-release monitoring and species management in and around the Mandai Wildlife Reserve, and specifically at the Mandai Wildlife Centre.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of wildlife conservation strategies, ensuring alignment with Mandai’s long-term ecological goals.
• Provide administrative and co-ordination support for Singapore Working Groups led by Mandai, i.e. the Singapore Pangolin Working Group, Urban Wildlife Working Group.
Ecological Monitoring and Conservation Research (~40%)
• Plan and conduct fieldwork, including biodiversity surveys and camera trap maintenance, to monitor species presence and ecological trends.
• Organise and manage biodiversity data from surveys, research, and incident reports to support analysis and inform management decisions.
• Undertake applied research focused on species ecology and wildlife management, providing insights that support adaptive conservation strategies.
Biodiversity-sensitive Operations (~20%)
• Work with operations teams to embed biodiversity protection measures into routine practices, reducing risks such as roadkill, bird strikes, and human-wildlife conflict. Ensure mitigation measures are implemented and monitored to safeguard wildlife across the reserve.
• Foster co-existence between people and wildlife through biodiversity awareness training for staff, vendors, and contractors, and by contributing to guest-facing outreach initiatives.
Job Requirements:
• Degree in Biodiversity Conservation, Environmental Sciences or related fields.
• Additional certificate, training or experience in wildlife handling, environmental monitoring, or conservation fieldwork will be an advantage.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in biodiversity field and outreach work.
• Familiarity with ecological survey techniques, such as camera trapping, transect surveys and vegetation monitoring.
• Hands-on experience in wildlife [DY1] handling in an urban and public environment is desirable.
• Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office, statistics (e.g. R programming) and spatial mapping programmes for scientific data management and analyses will be advantageous.
• Team player with a collaborative spirit, while able to work independently when required.
• High level of initiative and resourcefulness in both field and operational settings
• Good interpersonal skills with ability to engage staff, contractors, and the public.
• Strong attention to details, with accuracy in data collection and reporting.
